How to get a hardcopy backup? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I do a full backup of my home server, it states that is completes but with errors. I can view the report but there are many files listed as being upable to backup because of the lengh of the file name. My question is how can I get a printout of the completed backup report so I can resolved the file with the long string for an address.

Here is what is in the server event log:

    Server backup of folders

to hard drive E:\2010-02-20_0840 succeeded with 5 failures.

33753 files totaling 35,474,038,325 bytes were processed.

Operations: 33753 files linked, 2195 files copied, 0 files moved.

There is no listing of the 5 failures? Checked all of the event logs.

  • I don't know if this helps, but there's a WHS log specifically in the Windows Home Server folder

  • Evaders99,

Thanks for the reply but I don't see the backup log file there.  What I'm trying to find is the 5 failures that are listed in the Event log from my first posting. There must be a way to print out the backup log file, which should show me the listing of the 5 failures.

  • You are not talking about the Server backup done via console, or do you?
Other backup methods including ntbackup are not supported on WHS, and D:\shares contains mainly tombstones, which are difficult to handle for many backup applications.
