Visio 2003 is not activated......except it is. RRS feed

  • Question

Earlier today, while attempting to get a template from MOO in Word 2007, I got the OGA popup saying Visio 2003 isn't genuine.  Check the detail, it says it's because it's not activated.  Launch Viso, Activate product--"This product is already activated".  Deleted the .dat file and re-activated both Visio 2003 and Office Ultimate 2007.  Same problem.  The basic OGA checker finds no problems with either Windows or Office.  The standalone one gives me this error on Office:

Do I have to uninstall Visio every time I need to get a template, and reinstall it every time I need to actually use it?

  • How to troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to activate an Office product:

  • I did follow the steps listed under "Method 2" already--basically deleting the activation data and manually reactivating.  But I'm not having a problem trying to activate an Office product.  I'm having trouble trying to use office after everything is fully activated.  No errors come up during activation, the wizard doesn't disappear, the applications don't run in reduced functionality mode.  Everything works fine.  I get the "thank you.  Your Microsoft Product has been Activated" message.  But WGA still fails.

  • Run the WGA Diagnostic Test: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/

  • As I mentioned in my first post Smile  I ran the diagnostic test, and it said that WGA and Windows were fine, but Office failed because "Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003:
Validation Incomplete: Office Must Be Activated".  But I just re-activated Visio an hour ago, and if I try to do it again, it says "this product is already activated".

  • Hello Geko29,

Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. In an attempt to assist I would like to provide the following steps: Open My Computer located on your desktop

    1.      Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

NOTE:  The application data file may be hidden. Use the Tools drop down menu and follow:  Folder Options->View->Hidden Files and Folders->Show Hidden Files and Folders to show the folder. Please re-hide the files once you have completed all the steps.

    2.      Right click the data.dat file, then click “Delete”.

    3.      This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA)

    4.      Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and “ACTIVATE” it.

    5.      If product activation was successful try the Office validation again by at :  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=eng
