1 of 3 hdd fail, can the data be recovered RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of 3 hdd's failed.  Data was of course stored across all three.  The bad hdd has been removed.  Can I reasonably anticipate recovery of the files stored?  I haven't had a chance to remove the bad hdd from the array.

  • I guess you are using Windows Home Server? If not you're in the wrong forums, if yes;

    In the case of single disk failure all data in shares for which duplication is turned on should be save. Shares for which you did not turn duplication are at risk.  Client backups may be lost in case of single disk failure unless you used the WHSBDBB Add-in or a manual change in the registry to turn on duplication for the backup database (both methods unsupported). A damaged backup database will generally result in failure of the daily backups and can only be fixed by deleting the damaged database (WHS console, settings menu, Backup tab, Repair database) and start backups from scratch.
