  • I have been using this copy of xp professional for a year. It was on the computer when I bought it. I downloaded Explorer 7 and now its telling me the copy is counterfit. I have the complete key number and will be happy to send it to you for a check if you want. This is strange to have this happen after a year. i have downloaded all the updates and never had this problem until explorer 7 was installed. I have two computers i use with the same product key and the other one also has the microsoft validation tool installed. The only difference is it doesnt have explorer 7 on it.  Thank you, Thom

            We are sorry to hear about what your are currently experiencing. Unfortunately it may appear as if your software is non-genuine. Please reference this page: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx. Next you may compare your software media against what you see on this page. Next please review the piracy website located here:   http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/  This will be another start as well to see if you may have fallen as a victim to piracy. If you believe this true you may submit a piracy report and I would encourage you as well. Please look @ the information below for more guidance and provide me with feedback. This will help. 

     

    Please tell me about your computer such as:

     

    -  Is the system custom built?

     

    -  Is the system commercially built?

     

    -  Did you purchase the system new, at an auction, from a friend, where?

     

    -  Have you ever had the system in for any repairs and/or upgrades? If yes did you provide the repair location with all of your software which came with your system originally?   If so please share with me the details as well as what location, website. 

     

     

            Next please download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum. This will allow us to analyze what you are experiencing as well as provide you with a resolution. 

     

    Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:


    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.
