Windows XP GAV Diagnostic Report for Review please? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

Can this report be checked please?  I am having problems with Office Professional among others - Restore Point no longer operating/accessible, System Information not working, Media Player not working.

If the system is a dud - what happens to the Office files already created if I remove the system (Word, Excel, Power Point files etc).  Are they accessible when a new copy is reloaded?  Further, can I load a trial offer until I obtain a full Office Pro and will my system return to normal.

Basically, I'm lost and need help.

  • B Eagle,

Do you have the orginal Home OEM System Builder software? Dan provided a great solution. Currently you have no idea what may be lurking within your computer because there is non-genuine software installed. Please back up any and all software files i.e. all of your word, excell, powerpoint files which you may have created. Save them by whatever means you may have such as a thumbdrive, CD or DVD RW disc, external hard drive. Next I would procure a genuine copy of Office. This will allow you to view, make changes or whatever may be required with all of your pre-existing documents. Please remember and back up anything you WILL require for the future.

    Good luck,

  • B Eagle,

Your Windows is showing as a Genuine systembuilder/OEM license for XP Home Edition.

Your Office, on the other hand, is showing as a Nongenuine installation of Office 2003 Pro using a blocked Volume Licensing Key.

    My suggestion would be:

    1.  Go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click Validate Office.  The OGA system will tell you that your Office is Nongenuine and will present among other things the Genuine Office Offer that lets you buy one of three Office versions for a special discounted price.  Order one of those versions.

    2.  When it comes in, backup and offload your data to flash drives or an external hard disk drive and do a clean installation of XP.  Go to Windows Updates and get SP3 and all the other updates.  Then intall your brand new Office and then get the Office updates.

    3.  Restore your data.

    4.  Set up a Limited User account and use that ccount for your routine daily use of the computer.  Only use a Computer Administrator account when the task at hand requires it.  That's the best kept secret for keeping your XP computer happy and healthy.

  • Thanks Dan

I thought it may be a problem.  Will try the link now.

  • Nope - this link will only work so far for me.

I try both methods to validate but it takes me to a blank box that fails to load.

I use Firefox which did not want to load properly so I went over to IE and it also failed, AxtiveX controls not loaded so I tried second method and it is also unsuccessful.

    Any suggestions from here?
