  • I have a PC Which originally came with a German OS. Used Anytime Upgrade to Upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.

Has been working perfectly for a long time.

Recently got the Not genuine issue.   I did not run a registry cleaner. I see the Tampered service error below, but have no idea how to fix it.

  • OK - that obviously didn't work...

Open Regedit and navigate to the

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR

    Key

Export it to a reg file for safety!

Right-click on the key name, and Select Permissions,

Click on Advanced, then the Owner tab

Make sure that Administrators is the owner, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner...' box at the bottom

    Click OK once

add Administrators to the 'Groups or Usernames' list, and give them Full permissions

    CLICK OK

Now move to the 0000 subkey

    Double-click on the ConfigFlags entry

Change the data value to 400 (make sure that the radio-button is in 'Hexadecimal') and click OK

    Exit Regedit, and reboot.

    Post a new MGADiag report

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x80070426' to display the error text.
    Error: 0x80070426

(Have you been using any form pf Registry cleaner/optimiser??)

There is a problem with your Software Protection Service - something is preventing it from starting on demand the way it should.

Please use the following in an attempt to isolate the cause.

Click on Start in the Search box, type

    SERVICES.MSC

and hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.

Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.

make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.

Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?

Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report.

If it doesn't start, then please do the following...

Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....

    net start sppsvc

    sc qc sppsvc

    sc queryex sppsvc

    sc qprivs sppsvc

    sc qsidtype sppsvc

    sc sdshow sppsvc

Copy and paste the output to your reply

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • I did not run any Registry cleaner or optimiser. also do not know of anything I installed just before the problem started.

Software Protection Service is set to Automatic (delayed start).

Right click and Start gives an error. "Windows could not start the Software Protection Service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."

    (I checked, there is a file called sppsvc.exe in Windows\System32  size is  3 524 608 )

    In Administrator: Command prompt.

    C:\>net start sppsvc
The Software Protection service is starting.
The Software Protection service could not be started.

    A system error has occurred.

    System error 2 has occurred.

  • Regarding Norton: It is possible that some sort of Norton was bundled/preloaded with the original machine. (Acer does load annoying demoware.)

    Output from the above commands:

Not to chase any red herrings but why do you ask regarding spldr? I was checking the system event logs for any clues of what started this. It started around 2nd Aug, and there is a system log entry :

    Error

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: spldr

It appears this error occurs on every reboot since 2 Aug.

  • ConfigFlags    REG_DWORD    0x401

Is the source of your problem - this is often the result of uninstalling Norton AV without running the cleanup tool

Let's run it now and see if it cures the problem.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from here https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?lg=english&ct=united+states&docid=20080710133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Close all other programs, then run the tool. When it's complete, reboot the machine  whether it asks for it or not.

After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

    then post another MGADiag report.

  • OK - that obviously didn't work...

Open Regedit and navigate to the

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_SPLDR

    Key

Export it to a reg file for safety!

Right-click on the key name, and Select Permissions,

Click on Advanced, then the Owner tab

Make sure that Administrators is the owner, and put a tick in the 'Replace owner...' box at the bottom

    Click OK once

add Administrators to the 'Groups or Usernames' list, and give them Full permissions

    CLICK OK

Now move to the 0000 subkey

    Double-click on the ConfigFlags entry

Change the data value to 400 (make sure that the radio-button is in 'Hexadecimal') and click OK

    Exit Regedit, and reboot.

    Post a new MGADiag report
