Windows 7 not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I am getting the message that the license of my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine (I have bought it about 3 months ago and used it without problems until now). I'm also having a 0x80070426 error code when trying to activate my MS Office trial.
I think the two problems are connected since I started having the first problem shortly after the second one.
The computer also won't play any sound and the volume control is missing. Apart from that and a change of the wallpaper with a black one saying that this is an unlicensed copy of Windows, there aren't any visible changes in the way the computer functions.
One thing I tried, because I read it somewhere, is to re-install the activation update.

Can someone help me, I need the computer and Office urgently. Thank you for your time.

  • Unfortunately, you do not have a consumer version of Windows 7 installed - you have an enterprise "volume license" version sold only to businesses.  You'll need to purchase a conventional "Full Retail" edition of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".  Genuine Windows 7 software is available from the Microsoft Store .  After installing a genuine Windows 7 edition, visit Toshiba Support and download & install all the necessary Windows 7 compatible hardware drivers for your specific Toshiba Satellite model number.  Afterward, you can install your trial version of Office 2010.

Strangely enough none of the problems with Windows are persisting today - I have even been able to download updates. I still can't activate MS Office though.
I am not planning on purchasing a new copy of Windows, this one is already the second one I've had to use with this computer (that's also kind of the reason for using Office trial).

If you persist in purchasing pirate or counterfeit software, you will continue to have problems, and you can’t expect anyone in these forums to assist.

Your Toshiba presumably came with Windows pre-installed – which version and edition are quoted on the COA sticker? You should be able to either use the Toshiba Recovery partition or disks to get back to an ex-factory state – if you don’t have either, order a set direct from Toshiba.
