Is it possible to add more than 6 items to a Dashboard?

  Yes you can, you can only start with an initial template that has 6 but once you are in the edit screen you can click the chart, list, webresource, iframe buttons in the ribbon to add more to it.

  Yes, but it wont let you save if you have more than 6 items on the dashboard.

  Good call, I didn't try to save it :)  I guess this is a limit imposed by the system.  And... I guess I found a bug, as you shouldn't be able to get more than 6 on there then.

  Agreed. I thought I read somewhere that if you edit the SdK you can add 8 items to the dashboard, but I can't find where I  read it.

  With PowerShell you can increase the number of items you can place on the dashboard, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg334200.aspx#set_controls_limit

  It looks to me like Flowjob and Jehanzeb have both come up with a good answer for this one.  I think that Jehanzeb's example shows more, but flowjob's is right on the head and he got that part first.  I think you should mark both as the answer.   I would have proposed yours as answer too Jehanzeb but you had already proposed it. :)
