primary hard disk drive not found RRS feed

  • Question

  • my computer cant find its primary hard disk drive(dive C) and it keeps giving me this message: Primary hard disk drive not found. Now I can't boot from my internal hard drive. I have an external hard drive but I dont know how to boot from it. I tried installing xp on it through the installation cd and I got the blue screen of death thing that said that I should uninstall any newly installed partitions or something. How do I get my computer to boot at all. Do I need a new internal? And also how do you set your external so that it's your primary dirve?

This appears to be a general Windows XP setup issue. As this forum focuses on SteadyState specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows XP public newsgroup:

Based on my experience, I included some suggestions for your reference:

    1. Check your BIOS configuration first

Note: Please refer to the motherboard/BIOS manual to reset it. You may also need to contact the computer manufacturer for further assistance.

    2. Unplug un-necessary devices, including the external hard drive.

    3. Replace the internal hard drive to test.

    Best Regards,
