vista expiring in 12 hours - genuine copy - please help , unblelievably stressed RRS feed

  • Question

  • Firstly I have a genuine copy of vista , I bought my laptop new from john lewis and it is validated as genuine by microsoft validation site.

I installed vista service pack 2 beta kb94865 version .286 , I am aware I need to uninstall this and install the latest version of service pack 2 but I have tried all methods described in http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/23b20653-ddd7-47b1-8fd7-be9563c247b0 and on the microsoft article that this relates to , the uninstall does not succeed whatever method I try , the reason is I have nothing in my c:\temp folder , I do not have restore points , it is obviously massively frustrating , I have contacted microsoft support ( with a 'guarantee' they would get back in 24 hours and no reply .

I have activated vista , so slui.exe 4 takes me to a screen saying successfully activated with no phone numbers , but I still have a screen saying that windows will expire in 12 hours , what is the number for the uk do you know ? This is already taking up hours and is pretty unbelievable that a service pack can disable your computer ( whats going to happen in 12 hours ?! )  on a genuine copy of vista , its absolutely incredible that microsoft have built this into a service pack!

Please anyone can you give me a number ?

    What should I do ??

  • Hello tim99,

If you know your issue is caused by a Beta (or Release Candidate) of Service Pack 2 please see the Service Pack support page at http://support.microsoft.com/ph/11732#tab1.  If the information on the page doesn't help, click the link on the right side under "Get Help Now" The link will take you to Live Support. My understanding is that Service Pack issues are supported at no cost.

     Thank you,

    Darin MS
