CRM 2011 onpremises: Provide a warning before deleting the many to many relationships. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

For many to many relationship, we are unable to configure “Referential Restrict Delete”. When you delete a record which is having associated data in many to many relationship, CRM is deleting the related entries from the mediator table without any warnings. I would like to block this action and provide a warning to a user before deleting the data from the mediator table. Is there any way to achieve this without writing the code?

    Thanks, Ankit Shah

  • No.  When you create a many to many relationship between 2 entities, the system generates the 3rd intersect table and needs to have complete control over it.

You can create a jscript function that fires at the OnChange event for the lookup field on both the entities that prompts the users that data will be deleted, and prevents them from making the change.

Otherwise you could just have a plugin that handles this in the background and prevents the deletion.

Either method could have additional logic that could look for a specific security role that would allow someone such as a manager to actually complete the deletion if necessary.
