Security Essentials Client package update, Counterfeit software warning RRS feed

  • Question

  • During an automatic Windows Update that included Microsoft Security Essentials Client update package - KB2019198, MS Security Essentials displayed a warning that the windows software might be counterfeit, Windows must be validated as genuine, and that Security Essentials would stop working in 30 days.  I ran the validation check and rebooted my system but the notification persists. This seems awfully coincidental that it happened as the update was being installed.

    Please advise.

  • Get this too.

I believe it is MSE getting it wrong

    See my thread under
"MSE Claims Windows not Genuine, but Genuine Test Site & MSE's own installer recognise that it is - Bad March 2010 update from Microsoft?"

  • I can not remove MSE with "Add or Remove", get an error.
I can not update MSE, get a 0x8004ff07 error.
I can not get KB2019198 to install.

Running XP HE.  All other operations appear normal and as expected.
    MSE screen is Orange.

  • Using System Restore, I reset my system to the restore point just previous to the Windows Update.  MSE resumed normal function.  I then performed the Windows Update, excluding the MSE package and have not had any erroneous warnings.  Waiting for MS to provide a patch to the MSE update.
