Here's a little story, I had my PC installed with WinXP Home, but it got really slow because of many programs installed and stuff, so I decided to start a new again, I put in a CD mom had bought for WinXP, but when I go to activate Windows it says the code is incorrect, I have done it lots and lots of times, but it keeps saying the code is incorrect.

I tried the code that came with my laptop and the one that came with the CD, both don't work. I basically think it's because the CD was used to install an XP, BUT that WinXP installation was removed. So I have a not working CD now, I need help, I want to activate Windows so I can use Windows Media Player and other programs.

    I would appreciate the help.

  • Hello Sutton,

I think your solution is telephone activation.  Please contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click “Start”, point to” All Programs”, point to “Accessories”, point to” System Tools”, and then click “Activate Windows”.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Click “Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement”, click “Back”, and then click “Next”

    .
    4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box and then click “Next”.

Note:  The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5. Once activation is completed and you receive the following message, click “OK”.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

Also you may reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851

If you are done with the activation, kindly proceed in validating the copy of your software by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine Click “Validate Windows” button.

Please post again if you need further assistance. Thank you.
