How do I add/move entity from one workspace to another? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Basically, what I'm trying to do is move two things from the Sales workplace menu to the Marketing (as we're only using this as a marketing tool and NOT for sales). I want Competitors and Opportunities to appear in the Marketing workspace. The only place I can see where you'd make that change is in the Settings->Customize Entities-> and then click on the Entity. There is a place with check boxes that ask where you want to show the entity, but the options are greyed out. (and yes, I'm the sys admin).

    Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Hi,

    In order to accomplish your task, you'd have to export the sitemap, edit it and then import it again. You may find a lot of information on how to edit the sitemap on my blog: http://crmblog.pl/2009/01/23/dodanie-linka-do-zewnetrznej-strony-w-menu-dynamics-crm/(it's in polish, but you may use google or windows live translator ;) ) or you may refer to the IBIS blog here: http://www.ibisinccrm.com/?p=89 (a post about editing the sitemap).
    Once you export the sitemap xml file, find the following line:

    SubArea Id="nav_oppts" Entity="opportunity" DescriptionResourceId="Opportunity_SubArea_Description" />

    and move it to be inside the Area_Marketing area. Then, do the same with the following line:

    <SubArea Id="nav_comps" Entity="competitor" DescriptionResourceId="Competitor_SubArea_Description" />

    Save the file and import it again.

    Let us know whether that helps.

    Best regards,

  • Devin,

    You can also use the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Demonstration Tools to edit sitemap.

  • Thanks, Guys! I actually found it (berfore I saw the replies) in my CRM book (Working with CRM 4.0). I was able to export the sitemap and figure out how to massage the XML. I learned something new again! I'm really excited to get this project moved along the next few months. I'm finding the admin and customization very intuitive. I haven't even read a manual yet. :)
