My MS COA has worn off. How can I get a new one? RRS feed

  • Question

  • My Lenovo 3000 V200 laptop recently crashed to the point of having to wipe everything repeatedly.  Now I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition from the recovery disk that came with my computer, and its asking for the product key.  Unfortunately, the COA on the bottom of my computer is worn off to the point of being unreadable (I just spent the last 45 minutes trying to decipher it, but with little luck).  I cannot run any of the diagnostic programs on the computer because I cannot get past the product key screen.  Is there a way I can get a copy of my product key by providing other information to Microsoft?

    Please help!

  • Thanks.  For anyone else looking and not wanting to filter through the endless pages of Microsoft saying they charge for all contact methods, you can call 1-800-Microsoft (642-7676).  Get to an operator as quickly as you can, and they can generate a new one for you ONE time only.
