Duplicate Activities RRS feed

  • Hi,

    We are facing issues with duplication of activities(appointments and phonecalls) in outlook and it has been quite sometime. We have tried different rollup's but of no help. 

    Some of the users continuously report of hundreds of activities getting duplicated in outlook. The mobile devices that they use varies so we think that duplication is independent of the devices used by them. We deleted the duplicate activities for these users but they were created again. 

    It is really difficult to understand the cause of the issue,

    1. Does the duplication happen at the Server side and then outlook synchronizes the activities.

    2. Can it be the mobile  devices which user use for synchronizing outlook with MS CRM? We have different users using different kind of devices. Microsoft says that this is due to device. But we do not have any reason from them.

    Has anyone else faced this issue?

    Where should we start looking for the issue?

  • I have seen this happen because of the phone a few years ago.  When synchronization happens there is a 2 way sync.

    When you start seeing duplicates during the phone sync, this is due to the phone sync software.  Instead of linking to and updating the existing record, it pushes in a new record.

    You can validate that this is caused by the phone sync by turning off the phone sync for about 24 hours, clean up the duplicates and then monitor if duplicates are created for this user.

    I don't think Microsoft has a fix for this because the root cause is outside their application.
