To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )Once saved, run the tool.Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report. To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.- **in your own thread**, pleasePlease also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/content.aspx?pg=coa

Hi,
The Version and Edition of Windows quoted on my COA sticker is 'Windows Vista Home Basic OEMact'. The Activation screen jpeg is attached.
Please note the output of the MGADiag tool below as well. I thought i had pasted it in my earlier post. My bad.

The error messages above tend to imply that the problem is1) you haven’t updated your system to Service Pack 2 level2) you have recently updated your Anti-virus – and this update is not fully compatible with older SP’s of Vista. What Anti-Virus are you using? Have you recently updated it, or changed it?We’ve had similar problems recently with Avast, Symantec Endpoint and BitDefender – I would guess at this one being either BitDefender, or a different one entirely. The solution – if I’m right – is to uninstall the AV and run its cleanup tool, then update Vista to SP2, and install the latest updates, and then reinstall the AV.

Thanks Noel.
I have refreshed the OS recently and i don't think i got a chance to enter the new Product Key after that.
I did install a newer version of Bit defender after the Vista base install. Since then i have installed SP1 and this error started only after SP1. I will follow your instructions and uninstall BD , install SP2 and then reinstall the AV.
thanks & regards,
Manish A Kinnerkar.

That could account for everything, then. Please post a new MGADiag report after you complete the updates.
