  • You have Windows 7 Enterprise edition installed which requires MAK activation.  This is a volume license purchased by business enterprises so you will need to contact your IT administrator in order to activate it.

No - I do not work for Microsoft, or any of its contractors.

--Thank you, Mr. Frisch. Thank you for your answer. I appreciate it...sort of.

Here's the problem: I worked at a university. When I retired, they gave me the computer but said I needed to replace the OS. I wanted to replace it without a clean install bec I have 20 years of s/w programs on this puppy. It's a horrible job. So this computer tech found Windows 7 Ent and put in on my PC -- neglecting to say it was not really a legal copy from MS.  (Oh, that.)

So here I am...I guess I'll do the clone thing: replace my SSD drive with a blank one, use an Acronis thumb drive, put the old one on a Tbolt drive, then clone the external SSD to the blank one now inside the computer. Then tech will do clean install of Windows 7 Pro...(W10 not really good for this machine.)

Geez, OK. I'll do it. Hours and $150 in tech time later, plus $ for new Windows 7 Pro.

    OK, all that.

You are the wizards. Why can't you just upgrade my Windows 7 Ent and make it easy for everybody? Why do you make it so damned hard?

    Discouraging. Joan VT

  • Windows 7 Enterprise edition is Microsoft's top tier operating system designed for enterprise environments. It cannot be "upgraded" to a different edition because of this.
