hi, im a newbie so please go easy on me.
i resintalled windows vista on my partners laptop after a virus. i got the above code when trying to reactivate. It was an oem windows version.

Contact the OEM, and order a set of Recovery disks for the machine - these disks don't require the COA Key, as they contain the licenses the OEM_SLP Key needs to be able to self-activate.

It looks like you reinstalled using retail media and the OEM_SLP Key fund with a Keyfinder - you need to change the Key to the one on the COA Sticker on the machine's case, and activate that.
You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.

the problem is the key on the coa sticker has been rubbed off completely and my partner as non of the original cds. Thats why i had to use a key finder programme.
ive spoken to Microsoft who say as its an oem they cant do anything to help so im completely stuck.
any suggestions?
