Windows Mobile 6.1 bluetooth doesn't work with 08-09 Nissan/Infiniti Navigation Headunits RRS feed

  • So I went to the dealership and they basically looked at my like I am an idiot. They said they could not do the update because they have never heard of it. I went back home and called Nissan Bluetooth support again and they told me I would have to buy the Navigation DVD 7.4 in order to get the update. The price is $299 from the dealership and $190 from navteq. So I asked the support guy if I buy the disc on my own will it fix my problem, he said no becasue when you buy it from the dealer they will check your system to make sure it is compatable with the new navigation dvd and perform the updates. I think its ____ that they just cant do the update with out charging me for a new navigation dvd. The tech support guy did call me back and offered me a work around to get the bluetooth working on the car. Its not the best solution but it works. Basically you pair the phone and make your call. When the call is in progress/ringing, hit the button on the screen to switch to your handset it will switch to your phone. Then hit the phone button on the steering wheel and everything will be working fine. I have tired this and it works. This leads me to believe its a problem with Nissan and not WM, but I am not an expert.

  • Is there any way we can find out if Microsoft knows about this?  My phone was shown on Nissan's web site as being COMPATIBLE with the Nissan bluetooth.  When I called Nissan the tech told me about the 6.1 problem, yet the phone remains on Nissan's web site listed as compatible.

  • Yea, it is a bit ridiculous that these expensive products (both phone and car) are having problems with what should be a simple technology.  Which phone do you have?  I also emailed the manufacturer of my phone (HTC) and they basically said that it wasn't their issue, and that the Microsoft bluetooth stack was not compatible with what Nissan and Infiniti use (even though by design it was supposed to be).

  • I have a Palm Treo 800w.  On the forum for Palm, there are a number of us with this problem.  It seems to affect all brands and models of phones that use the windows 6.1 operating platform.  One would think that with Microsoft's technical talent, it would be a simple matter for them to create a patch that  could be downloaded and installed to fix this.

  • I was playing around with my Nissan:Samsung Omnia/WM6.1 pairing, and discovered the same work-around - establish the call, switch to handset, press the phone button on the steering wheel (don't ask me what led me to try that weird combo!).  A personal contact at Verizon claims that MS is aware of the problem and is working on a fix that should be released in a patch sometime (no idea when).  Meanwhile, I'm using my Motorola headset.

Does the DVD update resolve the issue?  Should we all pitch in to buy the Navtec DVD and pass it around <grin>?  What good are warranties when they don't cover software upgrades to key components?  Sheesh.

  • I have the new Navteq DVD and it doesn't change anything.  The Nissan tech deptartment knows about it but the problem is on the windows mobile 6.1 side.  I've been living with the work around.  It's not much of a problem with outgoing calls.  When the call is incoming, the calling party has to wait a few seconds for me to establish the connection.  It's inconvenient but it beats using a headset.
