How do I proceed with Microsoft certification? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings!
I’m interested in Microsoft Certification in order to broaden my marketable skill set and I’m a bit confused as to how to proceed.

First off, I’m a software engineer with over 20 years of experience, primarily with embedded real-time systems, but no real Microsoft specific development experience (with one notable exception.)

I was going to pursue a MCAD certification, but that certification seems to have been deprecated or made obsolete for new candidates. So now I want to investigate the MCPD certification.

Since I have NO prior MS certifications, is it sufficient to simply order one of the learning kits (e.g., MCPD Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-536, 70-526, 70-548): Microsoft .NET Framework Windows Developer Core Requirements), do everything specified therein, then take (and pass) the 3 exams for my certification as a MCPD: Windows Developer?

If not, please advise me as to how I should proceed. I don’t want to spend a ton of money needlessly.

    Thanks in advance,
    Docbar

  • Hi Docbar,
    Your idea is good (
e.g., MCPD Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-536, 70-526, 70-548): but there is prerequisite for this track, you have to be familiar with one of the .NET languages (C# or VB.NET or others), you need also to practice, most of the exams based on real experience not only a study material.

    Thanks

  • I would agree with Radwan. Instead of going for MCPD, start with MCTS. Take one exam at a time. First start preparing for the 70-536 exam. Experience is as important as certification, so somehow try to gain some experiences. If you don’t have any opportunity, work on your own.
