Lookup Table Value limitations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi -

Does anyone know if there are value or character limitations around the use of lookup tables?

E.g. You can only enter X unique values, you can only enter X levels, you can only enter up to X characters

    Tks,

    Shane

  • Hi Shane,

The theoretical limit is very high. But nearing 20.000 entries in a lookup table can cause problems displaying the custom field in Microsoft Project. My advice is to keep the number of entries in a lookup table below 1.000 (ideal) or at least below 5.000 (maximum).

Concerning the level, I'd advice not to go further than 6 levels.

    Hope this helps,

  • Shane, I recommend using alpha numeric characters only. Not sure what version you are using, but Project Server has evolved to be less sensitive to these over generations, but I believe that they still pose a risk. Better to avoid them.
