net localgroup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone know why `net localgroup "guest access accounts" /add` might fail with a reminder of the syntax of the command when `net localgroup randomuser "guest access accounts" /add` does work?

This is the case for both XP and 7 with my testing so far is it somethign to do with the parsing of the arguments to net localgroup?

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

    C:\Windows\system32>net localgroup users "ic\guest access accounts" /add

The syntax of this command is:

    NET LOCALGROUP

    [groupname [/COMMENT:"text"]] [/DOMAIN]

                  groupname {/ADD [/COMMENT:"text"] | /DELETE}  [/DOMAIN]

                  groupname name [...] {/ADD | /DELETE} [/DOMAIN]

C:\Windows\system32>net localgroup users mmtest "ic\guest access accounts" /add

    The command completed successfully.

Using the adding an extra user method I've got what I needed to do done, but would like to be able to do it the simple way in future. The same results happen if you prefix both of either username with or without the ic\ and mmtest is a domain account.

    Thanks,

    Mike
