    Having checked my internest security via Shields Up I noticed ports 80 and 443 are open. These are the same ports I forward in the router for WHS for remote access is there anything else I can do to be more secure? UpNp does not work.

    Not really, at least if you want access from multiple remote locations you don't know in advance. If you know from which IP addresses you are going to access your server you could set your router firewall to limit access to those IP addresses. In this way the ports will no longer be exposed to the world.

    You can close off port 80, then use https://xxxxx.homeserver.com in order to access your website.
