Cannot play wmv or wma files when downloading from email using windows media player.

  I'm having trouble with windows media player 11. A few weeks ago I upgrated to IE8 and my computer crashed the next day. After recovery, I wound up with an old version of windows media player. I was running windows media player 10 when it crashed. I tried to download it from microsoft, but they only showed WMP 11 available. Since then even when I try to play old files, I have to right click and then designate "open with windows media player" and then it plays. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
