Office is not Genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a problem. My Office used to be not needed for validating but now, I need. I have only 15 days left. ALSO, what will happen if my Office is marked non-genuine? Will I still be able to use it? Or, like some people say, only view it?

I'm sure my Windows is genuine but I'm not sure about Office. Please help.

  • Your Office Enterprise, which is only sold to businesses in quantity, is a volume licensed product.  It may be obtained through a home use program or academic installation through an accredited academic institution.  If none of these apply you have purchased a product that has been pirated and since Microsoft has found some type of misuse of the product key has blocked it.
You should contact the seller and demand a full and immediate refund of the costs involved in the purchase and you may also want to go to this web site and review the genuine product information there:
Of course, if you are part of one of those entities that has a legitimate volume license then you need to contact your IT department who should know who to contact for resolution.

  • Oh, thank you for answering. But I really really want to know if I'm still able to use it after it is marked non genuine. Thank you.

  • Hello SJMSPG,

The nongenuine Office installation you have will get a new Menu Item for Getting Genuine and you will see occasional nags when you start Office programs, but Office will continue to work normally.

If you have Genuine-looking counterfeit materials or inadvertently purchased genuine volume licensing materials, Microsoft will replace them for free.  Go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  On the subsequent web page alerting you to the fact that Office failed validation, look for the links to the Complimentary Replacement program.  If your materials qualify, Microsoft will send you free replacements.

  • Ah, I see. Thanks for the answer! I actually got it from my cousin. No point in telling Microsoft that. Thanks again. People keep saying that you can't access Office after that day so I'm really worried because I have a document with about forty thousand words and I DON'T want to lose that. Thank you for your time and effort!

  • Hello SJMSPG,

If you are just using Microsoft Word, there's no reason to buy a version of Office meant for big companies.

You can buy MS Word as a standalone program, or you can buy the Home and Student 2010 edition of Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote), which I have seen on sale in major electronics/office supply/general big box retailers for as little as $79-99.

And, Yes, "getting it from your cousin" constitutes casual copying, one form of software piracy.  And since it's a Blocked VLK, his/her copy is nongenuine too.

  • I see. Thanks. I didn't know. Looking that it's really cheap, I might buy it. Only $79-99. That's quite cheap. Thanks!
