Still unable to validate?

Question
-
I'm still recieving "The validation service is unable to determine whether this copy of Windows Vista is genuine." Whenever I try to validate. According to other threads in this forum, it's supposed to be working now.
I purchased my computer with vista pre-installed from Best Buy, I can't imagine that it's NOT genuine.
Here's the info from the diagnostic tool:

My DEEPEST apologies for missing your thread this weekend. I try and get everyone resolved ASAP.
The error-code C004C4A8 means that your hardware changed (either physicall or by drivers) and deviated from the factory image - which requires telephone activation for large-OEM PC's.
I'm glad telephone activation worked correctly for you.
Please let me konw if you have any other issues!

Try this > Click Start and type slui.exe 4 into the Start Search box and press Enter, from the dropdown menu of the dialog box that appears select your country and click next, in the next step you will see a phone number to call Microsoft so you can activate Windows, activate Windows via phone activation even if Windows is telling you that it is already activated, after activation restart your system and try to validate Windows again and if all goes well your version of Windows will be back to genuine validation status.
Hope this helps!

Visit: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en
and click on "Validate Windows". Afterward, log-off your account and
log back on.Sunday, August 26, 2007 2:27 AMModerator -
That's what I've been attempting to do, yet it claims it can't validate.Sunday, August 26, 2007 2:39 AM

I have no idea if this will work or not but you can try if you like, right click the desktop and goto to New > Text Document, open the text document and type C:\Windows\System32\SLUI.exe 4 now click on the file tab in the top left corner and select Save As, in the File name field type act.bat then click Save, now double click the .bat file that you created and if the phone activation dialog box appears just follow what i wrote in my last post.
Hope this helps!

When you visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/default.aspx?displaylang=en and click on Validate Windows, do you see any type of error message?Sunday, August 26, 2007 4:07 AMModerator

FINAL EDIT: After contacting the automated validation system, the AUTOMATED system failed to validate, so I was transfered to an actual person, who WAS able to give me a confirmation number to validate my installation with. So now, I'm working again!
It was a heck of a ride, but oddly enough, it makes it sort of interesting. Alright, anyway, thank you everyone for your help, and I hope everyone else gets through this soon.
EDIT: I FINALLY found my product key (it's on the bottom of my laptop...), and when I tryed typing it in, I got "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation", except this time I have the option of finding a phone number for phone activation, which I will be trying shortly.
Kind of odd that my issue got hijacked by someone else...could've created your own thread, at least.
Anyway, I tried making the act.bat file as you said, but the window that comes up says the following:
"The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation.
(1)Access your computer with reduced functionality (this will also allow you to buy a product key online)
(2)Type a different product key
(3)Contact Hewlett-Packard to help resolve this problem"
There's no dropdown menu or anything. The first option opens up a browser window. The second allows me to retype the key, and the third opens up a help and support menu for contacting HP.
I also tried testing my browser's ability to run the validation process, and it failed, but once I fixed it I still recieved the "unable to determine if your windows vista is genuine"Sunday, August 26, 2007 12:10 PM -

I am having the same problem. I have a Gateway laptop that came with Vista preinstalled. We have been using this computer for over 6 months... Over 2 days ago on startup it gave me the error... I have gone to the validation page and tried a few times and it just says unable to validate. My windows isn't limited... it isn't working at all. I can only go to the Microsoft website. This is very frusterating as I was told I needed to contact support and I did... she responded via email within 24 hours. She told me to go to the validation page and press validate... didn't work. I wrote back to her letting her know that it didn't work and no response. Then I wrote back again telling her that trying to resolve this problem via email is not working and I need to talk to a live person... still no response yet.
I just want to be able to use my fancy new laptop! What do I have to do to just be able to use it?
Thanks!
Lynn
