sync'ing shared folders between Win 10 networked computers RRS feed

  • Question

  • SyncToy 2.1 was working fine on my network between a Win7 desktop and a Win10 laptop. After I upgraded the desktop system to Win10, SyncToy fails to sync a pair because it is unable to access the folder on the other system. I have used the SyncToy 2.1 Download page to refresh SyncToy on both systems. I am also encountering problems accessing shared folders in Windows File Explorer. I have not set up a HomeGroup network yet.

  • I hope this helps others. I now have SyncToy working between the two Win10 systems. The problem was related to fixing the HomeGroup connectivity. I followed the suggestions at http://superuser.com/questions/1032743/no-other-homegroup-pcs-are-available-right-now which restored the HomeGroup. This allowed SyncToy to once again have access to the shared folders. After I set the sharing privileges for Everyone to Read/Write, SyncToy was able to synchronize the files. I wish Microsoft would leave things alone or at least explain it better.
