Sync Problems with WM 6.1 & ActiveSync 4.5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unable to synchronise with new mobile device with two PCs; home and office [both Windows XP]. Both have ActiveSyn 4.5. The device I bought recently is HTC Touch Diamond and runs OS Windows Mobile 6.1.

I was able to sync between both PCs previously with my old devices of WM 5.0 and WM 6.0 but the new device which has WM 6.1 gives me the following error message and only allows me to sync with one of the PCs.

    ===================

ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop.

    Support Code: 8600107

    ===================

It fails to sync Outlook components: Calendar, Address, Notes, etc.

Refer to the following forum link for other users with the same problem, all running WM 6.1, on various mobile devices:

  • Hi all,

There are at least 2 causes for this.  One that we are tracking now has to do with one partnership being created on a 64bit OS.  Then a partnership is created with another computer - doesn't matter if it's 32bit or 64bit.  After creating the 2nd partnership, you see an error (86000107) when you try to sync with the 1st computer - does this sound familiar to anyone?

What we know about this particular issue is not much yet other than it appears to be an issue with the desktop sync code.

There is another sync with multiple desktop issue that involves the changing of more than 100 PIM items (contacts, calendar, etc).  This was fixed in a latter build - check to make sure you've got the most recent ROM update from your Mobile Operator and OEM.  If you have the fix then I believe that the last digits of your ROM build # would be 1.2.6 or greater (found under settings within About).

One note - Maintenance Releases (MRs) aren't always available.  The Mobile Operator and the OEM work together to decide if they are going to make one available for a particular device or not.  It's very possible in some cases that MS has resolved an issue and delivered that in an update, but that doesn't mean that the update is available to the users.  Of course, it could also be that we, or the OEM, haven't addressed the issue.

  • Please remove all excisting partnerships on your device and pc's

Within active sync file-> delete mobile device

Within Active sync on your device -Menu->option-> tap and hold the computer and select delete.

Now after you did this reboor/restart all computers and device

Start up the main conputer first you want to sync with.

Reconnect the cable and follow the set-up

Hopefully this will work for you

  • I have the same error code - I also sync between two PC's using activesync 4.5 (both PC's have XP - my home one has office 2007 and my work one has office 2003). My mobile phone I use to sync is a HTC Tytn II running WM 6.1.

I have tried multiple 'fixes', including deleting all partnerships on both pc's and the Tytn II, deselecting and then reselecting the options to sync in activesync, rebuilding the PST files on both PC's, removing any duplicates that may be in the calendar in Outlook, reflashing the Tytn II with WM 6.1 and starting again, removing all recurring appointments (such as birthdays and UK public holidays) - all have failed to be a permanent solution,

The only thing that works is to downgrade the HTC Tytn II to WM 6.0 and then the error code disappears completely, leaving me to conclude that the error is specifically related to WM 6.1 and how it relates to active sync 4.5.

This error has been reported, as the opening poster states in the link provided, all across this, and many many other forums without any solution. As I am due an upgrade to my mobile device shortly I will be forced to (sadly) leave the windows mobile OS as my upgrade will also have 6.1 and therefore this bug as well if a solution is not forthcoming in the meantime.

Microsofts' Windows Mobile teams urgent help on this bug would be welcomed by many

  • I have the blackjack II using Windows Mobile 6.1.  I regret the upgrade from 6.0 to 6.1 every time I sync work and home PC's.  One PC is Windows 2000 the other computer is Windows XP.  I'm using Active Sync 4.5 as well.  I've found that I have to remove the outlook items (by taking the check out of the box) in active sync it's like you have to clean it of all the outlook sync on each computer. categories like (calendar, contacts, tasks, etc) IF YOUR TRY THIS MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR DATA and ADD the TASKS list seperately if you sync Tasks.  I usually sync the tasks after I've added everything else back. You can re-sync with your computer and it usually brings the data back into the phone.  The problem is, I have to do it everytime.

It is obviously a glitch in 6.1.  I like some of the new features with 6.1 but I don't like the hastle. I'm going to the Cingular-ATT store to see if I can downgrade if they don't find a fix for this soon.

  • I have exactly the same problem as you Davey - and tried each of the fixes you describe (as suggested by many other forums).  I am at a loss.

I can't even downgrade right now as my device has been rebranded by vodafone (there's no 6.0 available for download, just 6.1 and de-branding invalidates my warranty! grrrrrrrrrr)

Windows Mobile Teams - please please respond!

  • Has anyone on this thread received helpful info from Microsoft? Has this problem been solved?

My old Tilt died and when my service provider gave me a rebuilt replacement, it had 6.1. I never had any trouble syncing before. Now I can't sync contacts.

  • Guys, this may (or may not) help:  check your firewall settings when you have your device connected to the PC;  The problem I had was resolved by amending settings for my "windows mobile based device", so that it was listed in the "trusted" zone.  This allowed me to sync all items again.

For info, I use the free version of zonelarm - I didn't get this probem with windows mobile 6.0, just since I installed 6.1.

  • I am also experiencing the problem when trying to sync with two computers (with only one, no problem).

I am just wondering how it can be the firewall settings if the problem can also be overcome by deleting the relationship and re-creating it (wihtout any change to the firewall settings).

Just a thought about this very frustrating problem which is making me think about an i-phone.

  • You can delete the exchange partnership in WM6.1 with two simple steps.  First, open ActiveSync on the device, then delete both the relationship with the PC and Exchange.  This will take a couple of minutes for the device to erase all the previous sync entries. Next, delete the Device itself on your PC's Active sync.

Once that is completed, you are free to enter an exchange relationship again on the device.  I just did this on an HTC Fuse (AT&T) and it worked perfectly fine.  I would not suggest a downgrade to WM6, since you'll give up the ability to search the exchange server's contacts, etc.  Fear not, its just a little different, but all of the WM6 functionality is included in WM6.1 plus some new features you may have yet to find.  Sys Engineering (AT&T Mobility)

  • This has finally worked for me !!!

What i did was very simple.. In Microsoft ActiveSync, Go to Tools - Options - Settings and untick all the items in Windows PC (not on Windows PC2)  and press ok.  Then syncronising will start automatically.. once it is over then go to the same settings and tick only the contacts option and press ok.. Then it synchronises all the contacts.. Then go to the same option once again and select whatever options you want to add further...

FYI: I'm using HTC TYTN II.. my office pc is running windows vista and home pc running windows xp.. as you would all know the problem i was having was only in my home pc..

I am happy that my problem for the last 5 months got finally solved...

Please try this and post your feedbacks folks...

  • Has anyone found a REAL solution to this problem?

I have the new HTC Touch Pro and am only trying to sync to one computer.  I am able to sync successfully once, but that's it.  I'm tired of deleting the device partnerships and then reestablishing them.  This is not efficient as I lose all of the phone specific personal contact info - for example, picture and ring tone assignments - and I also have to redelete any of the contacts from Outlook that I don't want to have in my phone contact list.

VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!????  HELP PLEASE.  Thank you,

  • I also am having the same problems with the single PC sync. I've got an ATT Tilt (aka HTC Kaiser).  I upgraded to 6.1 two weeks ago and had to enter my Exchange credentials 5-6 times before they were accepted.  I then had spotty downloads of email from Exchange.  Running Outlook 2007.  Contacts and appointments seemed ok.  My last emails downloaded were on 11/16/08.  Gmail downloads of email stopped as well.    I called ATT support and they were no help, as I can connect to the internet.  I began finding & trying various bits of advice on net, and found the patch for SMTP from Microsoft and that worked for my Gmail.  Outlook is different.  First, my contacts dissapeared, then my appointments (since yesterday)  I was able to sync to PC without issue, until last evening, and now the device is no longer seen by the PC. I've deleted the partnership, but the device still isnt seen by PC.  I've done a hard reset on my device, I've uninstalled and reinstalled activesync, still nothing.  The usb port and cable are working, as they charge the device.

I have two issues - cannot sync with Exchage, cannot sync with PC via USB

We are all spending a great deal of money on hardware and services, Microsoft needs to step up to the plate and let us know what they are doing about this.

  •  I've experienced the same problems as many of you.

I'm running Office 2007 on a XP SP3 machine.  Trying to sync by way of ActiveSync 4.5 to a Samsung Epix running Mobile 6.1.

Office 2007 is connected to an Exchange Server on my machine, but I do not select the option to sync directly with the server.  Password changes, etc make this a better option for me, and my machine synch's down local copies automatically with the Exchange Server every hour.

What I have found is that I can sync my contacts, no problem.  But when I add the Calendar, everything freezes.  I can't use Outlook until I reboot my machine and I get various error reporting notices.

I used an IPAQ for about 7 years and sync'd with Outlook 2007 (Outlook 2002 before that) using ActiveSync 4.5 and its predecessor.  I never had a problem synching contacts, calendar, etc.

I'm convinced it is a Moblie 6.1 issue.

I've connected by USB and by Bluetooth.  I get the same messages either way.

  • Same problem  (worked fine before).  Sync fails with WM 6.1 and Active Sync 4.5 Samsung i760 on two PC's.  Home is direct cable connection via USB...Work is USB direct cable and Exchange 2003 through XP SP3...

This is completely unaccectable.  Has MS issued a solution outside of unticking, uninstalling, etc...  what kind of solution is that?

Who on this forum actually resolved this issue without a workaround (i.e. complete reinstall etc...) and what is the reason for this oversight on Microsoft's part.  I have used the mobile operating system since HP's first PDA...but this kind of oversight will send me to iPhone, Palm, or other alternatives real quick.  The only good thing about win mobile is the Outlook syncing.  They break it in v6.1 and no response?  Strange.

Sorry, a bit of a vent there.

  • I just started receiving this error, 8600107, as well. I had deleted all of the contacts on my Treo Pro (to remove windows live contacts and sim contacts and duplicates). Then I tried to sync my contacts, now nice and organized in Outlook, with the Treo. 8600107.

I couldn't get anything to fix the problem. Then I unchecked "Contacts" from the ActiveSync on my desktop. The program said that it would have to remove the contacts from my Treo -- is that ok? I said yes (especially 'cause I had already done that). Then it synched. Then I re-checked the box and synched again. Voila! Instant success. Yes, I am saying that this worked for me. Problem solved.

So perhaps you can uncheck all the ones that aren't synching, synch, and recheck and resynch, as I did.

Uh, obvious warning here: Do not delete stuff from your phone if you do not have it backed up somewhere. For example I had already backed up the contacts I wanted into outlook before I deleted all my contacts on the phone.

    Good Luck!

  • I have had success using the above method.

Have recently uprgaded to win mob 6.1, with win 7 beta (build 7000) on home (64 bit) and work (32 bit).

Was able to sync to both computers fine before upgrading to 6.1.

Since the upgrade the syncing fails on the 2nd computer, and switches depending on which computer i sync with first.

Had tried all combinations of complete hard resets, re-installs of outlook on each computer, deleting all appointments (which results in the 'phantom' issue described in other forums), and even reformatting and reinstalling windows 7!

I was successfully synced with the first computer, then entered sync settings on the 2nd, and unchecked calendar and tasks, then synced, then added tasks back in, and synced, then added calendar back in, then synced. First successful sync with 6.1!!! :) :)

  • Hi dmraman,

I would like to try your solution.  Which ActiveSync partnership was for your home pc -Windows PC or Windows PC2?
    Monday, April 20, 2009 3:00 AM
  • This depends on which computer you synced with first.

You can rename these connections to something more memorable within the activesync program on the handheld device.

An update to my post above - the problem still exists - i have to repeat the procedure (uncheck calender/tasks) every time i want to sync with the second device. It hasn't affected the first device sync at all.

Hopefully MS reads this and it helps them localise the issue.

  • Hi MaryAliceC,

Note: Problem with MS Office 07 & ActiveSync 4.5 syncing to 2 PCs

I run Win Mobile 6.0 on a HTC Touch Cruise, and sync to 2 PCs with ActiveSync 4.5.  I got the 86000107 error after upgrading my PDA to Win Mobile 6.1, so re-installed Win Mobile 6.0.  I was OK when my PC were running MS Office 03.  However, I have problems syncing to both PCs now that they are running MS Office 07.

    This is the problem:
    1. Recurring Calendar items only show on 1 PC when current view is day/month/year (in MS Outlook 07).  However, if current view is changed on that PC (e.g. to All Appointments or Recurring Appointments) I can see all the "missing" calendar items in the table data.
    2. Somtimes I may still get Error 86000107 - but now it goes away if I unplug my PDA and resync.

I have't seen this identified so far so I hope this helps to find a fix to my MS Office 07 / Active Sync 4.5 problem.

Please let me know if this is helpful.  I'll be glad to do further tests for you to help fix this problem.

  • Hey everyone,

The two explanations that 2GrokMobile provides cover most of the problems we have seen. I'm going to mark his post as an answer so that other people can find it. Sorry there isn't a solution besides checking with your mobile operator to see that you hve the most updatd ROM. They are the ones that can offer a fix.

What can I do to get these "missing" Calendar items to show in the day/month/year Calendar view on my home PC since they are in the Outlook d/base?  Is there some status code on those records that I can change?

  • Hi all

I have a SMT5800 from Verizon Wireless.  Ever since it was moved to WM 6.1, I can not send email on Lotus Notes (pushed to phone from CommonTime).  Everything else works.  Calendar, contacts, sync with computer, emails are downloaded to phone, etc. but I can not reply or compose email.  Everyone tells be that the problem is a Microsoft issue, but no one seems to be able to get me a fix to go back to 6.0.  MS tells me that I need to talk with HTC and they don't have it either.  Any advice???

  • SMT5800 user I have not used CommonTime before, but from your description, it sounds like your SMTP server setting has changed, preventing you from sending email.  You receive email without any problems right?  Do you still have your 6.0 image?  Not sure if the upgrade tool that you used allowed you to save the image off. Is your data connection still ok?

  • 2GrokMobile - Thanks for your response.  I ran the Office Diag. on my home PC.  The results;
    No. of tests = 6
No of problems identified = 1
No. of problems corrected = 1

I'll run it on my office laptop and let you know the result.

  • I got this response from my mobile operator:

"This appears to be a security feature of the 6.1 ROM versions, were it only allows synchronisation's with one P.C

This limitation has been flagged to the relevant devices team and it has been suggested that this limitation be removed in the next ROM version.

Unfortunately the o2 web site does not hold any old ROMs which would allow you to downgrade your device operating system to"

Sounds like we'll just have to wait and be patient.

  • 2GrokMobile,
I have found the source of the problem where I can't see all my annual recurring items in my Outlook Calendar in Day/Week/Month view, even though they do show in the Recurring Appointments and Annual Events views.  This is it:

If I add an annual recurring item to my PDA then sync with my home desktop, the annual item shows on the desktop with repeat every 12 years instead of repeat every 1 year !!  They show in the Annual Events view with "every 12 years' as the recurrence pattern.  If I then change that setting to 1 year, the item shows up each year in my Calendar day/month/year view.

Note: There is no facility to set that repeat characteristic on the WM6 PDA.

Please check to see why this happens.  I'm running:
    - Win Mobile 6 on a HTC Touch Cruise (gave up on WM 6.1 due to problems syncing on 2 computers)
    - ActiveSync 4.5 and MS Office 2007 on my desktop PC.

Please let me know if you need more info.

  • I am having a similar problem with a VZN Touch Pro2 (WinMo 6.1) syncing with Exchange via mobile network and with a PC running Windows 7 64 bit at home.  I have had numerous problems over the past few days (since moving from Vista 64 to Windows 7-64), tried deleting and reinstalling partnerships several times, soft resetting device, etc.

Initially ActiveSync on the device would say it was syncronizing but it would show "Contacts: 0/574" and wouldn't change from this (aka hang).  I think it kept trying all night and all day because I have very short battery life one day.  Hitting stop or the x on the device didn't seem to have any affect.  Only power off would stop it.

After deleting partnerships a few times it seems to sync with Exchange okay and the device says it syncs with the Windows PC okay ("Syncronized: Today @ correct time) but Windows Mobile Device Center on the PC says the sync failed and lists a bunch of appointments it says didn't sync (which seem to all be recurring appointments and all but one or birthdays and anniversaries automatically included in calendar by Outlook).  "The following appointments failed to synchronize from the device: 1. Subject:" and a long list.

Error codes I've had in the past few days include 80070057, 85010001, and 86000108 but I'm not getting a specific error code now.  WMDC shows "Severity: Error" but no number.  The device shows attention required and the link leads to the long list of appointments that didn't sync but no error code.

I have another problem which may be related too:  when I connect to the PC via USB it begins to sync but then stops.  The device shows only "Connected."  WMDC on the PC shows something like Sync stopped.  The only way to get sync to go is to hit the sync soft button on the device.

With these issues and the what-were-you-thinking 5-minute-snooze design mistake my commitment to Windows Mobile has really been shaken. (I've been using WinMo since the SMT-5600)

  • It's the Windows firewall.
ActiveSync creates yet another network adapter, forming a private network between Host and Mobile. I disable the firewall on ONLY the ActiveSync network adapter. Ideally, I will take the time to create the appropriate exception and re-enable the firewall.

Firewall remains On for all other NICs.

  • If you go into your cell phone the HTC touch PRO 2 and you go into the ACTIVE-SYNC settings, there is a check box about if you can't synchronize to check it, UNCHECK it, and it'll sync up, you can update the cell phone to the windows 6.5 ROM it's officially out, if you are using windows 6.1 you need to delete the partnership file on the cell phone, or you need to go into mobile device center and delete the partnership, or you need to go into active-sync and delete the partnership...... I updated the ROM on my device here

    http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=128&cid=1&mid=356&carrier=Verizon%20Wireless

and as for the cell phone to fix the activesync its
    START
    SETTINGS
    ALL SETTINGS
    CONNECTIONS
    USB TO PC
    only check
    ACTIVESYNC (SYNC WITH OUTLOOK)
    DO NOT CHECK
ENABLE FASTER DATA (THIS IS ALWAYS CHECKED BY DEFAULT AND CAUSES THE PROBLEM)
    DO NOT CHECK
    DISK DRIVE
Check the box that says ask me about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC

Make sure you installed the drivers or let it install the drivers for the HTC touch PRO 2 and everything else.....
    Install VZACCESS and follow directions

Now you can sync, and tether your cell to use it as a wifi connection to the 3G network either USB or Bluetooth!

I had the same problem when setting this up, it drove me nuts, and then i figured out that there was a file on the cell that is linked to the profile on the activesync or mobile device manager, and i had to delete that with windows 6.1 and then when I upgraded I had the same problem, I had to change the settings as I said and it fixed the issue, I hope this makes alot of you happy! Sorry that they default it to connect but it dont connect or install the drivers like it's supposed to........ I had this problem as  I said it took 12 hours to figure out, and I just updated it to windows 6.5 this morning and had the same problem syncing and was trying to remember how to fix it, and came across this board, and then remembered.....

  • I finally figured out why the craddle would not work with the laptop, there is an HTC profile created when you first setup the cell phone drivers on the laptop, and if that or the profile sync pair gets muffed up in anyway, it just fails to recognize the phone in windows vista... I found this article, I figured I'd pass it along to you for other customers, thanks for your help, sorry I bugged you out, but it wasn't working, and literally took me all day to figure out why...

    On your HTC
    Step 1: Press Start
    Step 2: Select settings
    Step 3: Select (6) Connections
    Step 4: Select (0) More
Step 5: Select (1) USB to PC
Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems
    connecting ActiveSync.
Step 6: Disable the option - Enable advanced network functionality
Step 7: Press done 3 times
Step 8: Return to main screen.
Step 9: Uninstall unrecognized USB device in device manager (on PC)
    Step 10: reboot Phone/Reconnect

  • Has anyone found a consistent fix for this? I synched with 2 pcs (one time) as the phone always seemed to need a hard reset when i was not at work and as such my information was not available.
I have removed the mobile device from my pc and the phone, uninstalled - reinstalled active synch and it may work, but only for a day.  The next day I'm back to square one having to delete connection and HOPE that it works (sometimes it does, many times it does not).
This is getting ridiculous.  My error code is a little different (0x80072EFD) but everything seems to lead back to multiple pcs and/or moble 6.1

I do not connect through exchange server, just direct to the PC and only do contacts and calendar.
If there is a download somewhere to fix this I'd REALLY love to know about it.

  • I have also had a problem with the syncing of my HTC 8525 -

Syncing the calendar erases calendar entries on my mobile phone.

There is really no way to adjust this on the sync software - all there is is

on Options, and it gives you choices for what to do if there is a conflict.

But it does not ask you if you would like to delete any of the calendar events, data on your

    phone, it just does it.

The data is on the Outlook Calendar, but gone from the mobile phone calendar.

Also, I had a similar problem with my Palm phone of about 5 or 6 years ago,

updating or syncing information deleted information without warning.

  • I too am having this problem.  I have both a work and a home machine running Windows XP, both computers use Office 2007 and I have an HTC Imaggio.  Whenever I sync (on either machine) the first time that day, all the annual recurring events will change from every 1 year to every 12 years!

If I go through and correct each entry it will work ok for the rest of the day, and the next day the mess will start all over again.

What can I do to fix this?
