    Crazy question but can the IM portion of OCS 2007 be turned off?

     

    Mgmt, wants to know if it can be turned off but leave all the rest of the fuctionality. From what i can find I cannot as it is wrapped up in the front end services - is that correct?

    There's a group policy option to disable data conferencing in the Office Communicator ADM. I'm not entirely sure that actually disables IM, but you could try that setting.

    In a word, no.  SIP is used as the signaling protocol for the other services, so you can't stop rtcsrv.  You could use a desktop management system (SMS/SCCM) to prevent running Communicator on the desktop and/or write/buy an application that enforces communicator security.
