Hi.
There are two .NET Web Development certification titles available for you. You can either earn the older MCPD that is based on Visual Studio 2010 , .NET 4.0, and MVC 2 or the newer MCSD certification based on Visual Studio 2012, .NET 4.5, and MVC 4.
Here are the required exams for these two titles:
MCPD: Web Developer 4
Build interactive, data-driven ASP.NET applications by using ASP.NET 4 for both intranet and Internet uses.Required exams
70-515 MCTS: Web Applications Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4
70-513 MCTS: Windows Communication Foundation Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4
70-516 MCTS: Accessing Data with Microsoft .NET Framework 4
70-519 PRO: Designing and Developing Web Applications Using Microsoft .NET Framework 4MCSD: Web Applications Solutions Developer
Get recognized for your expertise in creating and deploying modern web applications and services.Required exams
70-480 Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3
70-486 Developing ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Applications
70-487 Developing Windows Azure and Web ServicesWhich one should you choose? Here are some important points about these two titles.
- None of these above exams are scheduled for retirement. As of today (12/31/2013), none of the above exams or titles are being schedule for retirement. Learn about the exams that Microsoft are retired or soon will be retired here: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/retired-certification-exams.aspx
- The MCPD certification title is kept with your profile for life. No recertification exams required.
- The MCSD certitication title requires you to take a recertification exam two years after you pass the third required exam. If you do not recertify, your MCSD title will be marked as INACTIVE on your transcript.
- There are good study resources for both titles. However, because the MCPD exams have been around a little longer, there are more available for MCPD, such as practice exams from Transcender, SelfTest Software, and MeasureUp.
- Perhaps you should choose the appropriate title based on your working experience.
- You could choose to earn your MCPD first and then earn your MCSD. It will be a more respectable transcript. However, it requires more exams, money, preparation, and time.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!
Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

Hi.
First off, you will need to decide yourself if you want the older MCPD or the newer MCSD. I recommend that you choose the title that goes with your one year of development experience. Please see my MCPD/MCSD title descriptions in my previous post.
Next, you will need to pass the required exams for the certification title.
**The required exams can be passed in any order. As well, none of the exams are being scheduled for retirement so no rush on any of them. Please use my exam list above to see what exams you will need to pass in any order to earn your MCPD or MCSD.
For study, materials, you can search Amazon based on exam numbers. Be sure to use the US site and study the user reviews to pick the best book. Here are the books for the 70-480 exam: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=70-480&sprefix=70-48%2Caps&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A70-480
Good luck!
Best wishes, Davin Mickelson
