Secure way to backup data from virus infected pc?

  my pc is infected with a serious virus and may be i have to  format it but before formatting i want to take some data from it with CD\DVD and pen drive 
  i know if i directly use that it will be infected there also but how can i remove when i backup from infected pc or after that , using that CD\DVD to other pc
