  • Question

  • As per your instructions, I'm pasting the validation information.  I bought this HP computer about 18 months ago and I've never done anything to the system software!  Why am I getting this "not geniune" warning?

  • Please go to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click Validate - that should resync the WGA Validation files.

Afterwards, please click start, then run, then type in "WGAtray.exe /b" and then reboot. That should fix it!

  • Geoengineer,

The diagnostic tool is showing your XP installation as genuine, so no worries there.

There is a glitch with the WGA tools, as evidenced by this entry in the report:  Download Center code: Failed to get code. Error:0x80072efd

My suggestion would be to initiate a free email tech support incident at this link:  http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?Gprid=9860
