Dynamics CRM 2013 - Outlook Plugin outside CRM domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am very new to MS CRM and tried configuring Outlook plugin for Dynamics CRM 2013, which failed with the error "The caller was not authenticated by the service".

Our client machines / laptops are using VPN to connect to the network. Laptops are not on domain and Outlook runs under a local user. My understanding, after some googling / binging is that if Outlook plugin is not on the domain laptop, then CRM needs to be configured for IFD.

Just wanted to check that if my understanding is correct, before I spend time configuring CRM for IFD.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi,

Yes you cannot configure CRM for outlook other then the domain where it is installed. if you want to access outside the installed domain then you need to configure ifd.

    Thanks & regards!

  • Hi,

You should be able to connect to the server using VPN. You need to be able to do a call to it using the name that is configured in the deployment manager though so if dns isn't working you need to add that to the hosts file.

However, I've seen instances where something isn't quite working right and you get errors with authentication, but I've also connected both to our own CRM using VPN as well to our customer's CRM so it's definitely possible.

That said, it's a lot more convenient when the IFD is in place, you might need a couple of goats though ;)

    Good luck!
