Wireless Printer Adapter RRS feed

I have installed an HP Wireless Printer upgrade adapter on my new HP Pavilion Elite with Vista.  I use an HP PSC 2175 All in One printer.  I have spent NUMEROUS hours trying to resolve this issue myself and countless hours with HP.  The only way I can get it to print with the wireless adapter is to completely turn off my One Care Firewall setting.   When it is off, it works.  When it is on, it will not print.  I need to open a new port and protocol to allow it thru the firewall.  Can you please tell me the settings to use?  I have tried everything including uninstalling Microsoft One Care, re-installing the wireless adapter, and re-installing One Care.  Still didn’t work.  This adapter worked fine on my network with Windows XP.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm not sure that I know how the printer is configured, but I suspect that it is a wireless printer connected to your network, so the printer is really a network printer. In OneCare, click on Change Settings, then the firewall tab and advanced. Set File and Printer sharing to All computers, not just the local subnet. If that doesn't work, contact OneCare support.

Are you using the 2.0 beta? If so, support for 2.0 Beta - http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=onecarev2 - use the "Get More Help" link in the lower right of the page to contact support via email.

Support for v1.6 is via the information here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1183038&SiteID=2

  • Hello Ann Marie,

have you ever get a solution of this pain?

I contact HP, I contact Microsoft and now I feel this is a better way to solve problems

than calling any useless Helpdesk numbers again :-) .

Sorry HP, sorry Microsoft; this was a bad, bad experience!!!

So I hope you are so lucky you can give me the right community feeling  and

help me to print WITH a active firewall.

Thank you so much and best regards,

    Michael
