I've read and tried several suggestions for doing this. They didn't work for me. There is no "hide update" prompt in any drop down box concerning GWX or anything previously mentioned for disabling GWX.
start by going to the magnifying glass, (right margin) and type in Task Manager.
I've gone to file location, clicked on properties in the drop down box, then clicked on the security tab in the new box.
Don't get your hopes up, once you are at the final box, (GWX PERMISSIONS), you can't do squat. There is no way to disable trusted installer and enable a new administrator or change permissions in any way I've found.
I've reloaded my 8.1 disc and even after the new installation, when Microsoft asks you to view your email from another device to get a special code, they hijack your computer with the GWX update stuff , (for lack of a better term), when you enter the code.
