Windows genuine broke RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi community,

The laste couple of weeks, my computer started doing random "program stopped responding", now display drivers are stopping responding, I now see that my windows isn't not genuine anymore.

I can't reactivate through slui.exe tried a bounch of tricks, "slui.exe 4", enable hidden admin account, disabled the security, nothing gives me access. The message is in danish, but reads something like "Windows wasn't able to obtain access to the requested path or file. It is possible you don't have the prober rights".

The key I bought many years ago, and have been changing hardware a couple of times without problems.
I lost the exact key information, the key is a retail key and have never been a problem before.

I found the windows defender disabled due to some group policies, those are fixed now and defender is running again.

Could is be connected to faulty memory (due to all the unexpected program crashes and display driver that stop responding from time to time), maybe some sort of hack/virus or just time to upgrade (like Apple :P)?

    Any thoughts are highly appreciated

Through the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool I get this reading:

  • Your installed Product Key is the Default Key - which can never be activated.

There is evidence of an Activation Exploit being present in an attempt to bypass activation and validation requirements.Does your 'purchased' Key agree with what you can see of it in the diagnostics? - *****-*****-TMVMJ-BBMRX-3MBMV

  • The key is an very old OEM key, had caused me problems when upgrading hardware in the past, but the activation upon last hardware change did go through.

I came to the conclusion, that it was about time to upgrade, so I bought the Win10 retail key from a store (and not from a shady website like the previous key) and did a clean installation as cheap keys from shady sites, has caused problems for me in the paste.

All is good, I can recommend all that read this thread, to buy a key from a trusted and verified site.
