Microsoft Money Deluxe Installation on Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a an RCA Cambrio running Windows 10 Version 1709 OS Build 16299.125

When I install the USMoneyDlxSunset (2016-08-09) I receive the error message:

Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money.   Try installing Money again.

I tried two of the solutions Cal Learner proposed in other threads of the Money forum reporting the same problem.

-- 1. -- setting up a new user and having the new user download Money and do the installation

    https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/47a0de85-605f-48ac-b034-e36005a633d7/cant-install-download-ms-money-2008?forum=money

-- 2. -- creating a temporary folder, extracting all the files to it, and invoking the .exe from within that folder.

Always I have the same error.

    Any suggestions please

  • I found the solution to my problem, Bill.   It comes from "Trouble", a moderator on Windows Ten Forums.   I quote the key part of his posting:

There are a lot of Microsoft Money threads on this forum and the consensus seems to be that after installing, you need to make sure that Windows Update includes a check mark to include "Other Microsoft products" and then manually run Windows Updates to see if it downloads and installs some updates that help the program run in Windows 10.

I followed Trouble instruction exactly and, voila, my Money Plus Deluxe Sunset installed with no hiccups whatsoever.

Thank you, all the same, for embracing my problem.

  • Did you use US Money Plus Deluxe Sunset installation file from this link?

    https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/479281b2-90f9-42ca-85f7-644fc6e1e5c3/download-microsoft-money-installation-files-solve-activation-and-some-other-errors?forum=money

If so, did you try the "Plan B that Cal describes in his post of Friday, March 25, 2011 11:30 PM in the thread that you referenced?

  • Yes, I did download the US Money Plus Deluxe Sunset from the link you cited.

Then I extracted them to the \Temp\Sunset folder per Cal Learner's post on 7 March 2007.

    https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e0de648f-fbcf-482f-bc3f-819cefd08aa4/extracting-money-installation-file-to-avoid-autorun-error?forum=money

Taking a peek in the directory, I noticed there were 319  extracted files.  The most recent of them was 2 March, 2010.

Continuing on with Cal's instruction - which I think is the "Plan B" on the 25 March 2011 post -  still in the command box, I invoked the mnyinst program, "mnyinst".    The installation then ran exactly the same as when I had simply ran the downloaded USMoneyDlxSunset directly.   And I received the same error as I mentioned above.   Grrr!

Have you any other ideas, Bill?  I'd be truly grateful.

  • Maybe this is some sort of permissions problem.  When you opened the command box did you select "Run as Administrator"?  If so and still no joy, it would be worthwhile to log in as an administrator and then try the command.

In that forum thread, Cal mentions deleting a registry entry to solve the autorun.inf problem.  That may not be relevant to what you are observing and the thread dates to well before Windows 10, but it's worth a try.  Keep notes so that you can change it back and, as always with registry changes, be sure to create a restore point so that you can recover if something goes awry.

  • Wow, that's a new one to me!  But Windows update has certainly caused more that a few problems lately.  Thanks for providing feedback on a solution.
