My boyfriend reset my laptop to its factory setting on his last tour of afghanistan and ever since it has been asking for the product key so i entered the product key on the bottom of the laptop on the microsoft sticker except it says that this is incorrect. It hasn't been mistyped at all and i do not know what else to do as i cant afford a new laptop and i have uni work that requires word to be fully functioning.Monday, June 13, 2011 2:03 PM

The product key affixed to your laptop is for Microsoft Windows, the operating system installed by the laptop manufacturer. If you are getting a request to enter a product key when you open Microsoft Word, then you'll need to find the original 25-character product key for Microsoft Word (or Office, whatever the progam installed) and type it in. If you do not have a product key, then you'll need to purchase one. Visit the Microsoft Store for information on how to purchase a Microsoft Office Suite or the Microsoft Word application.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
