  • I suggest to ban this user. If he copies other people content and puts MS downloads into Galleries, he has to be banned. This is not a behavior that should be tolerated.

Also, all these "contributions" need to be removed and points need to be subtracted.

  • The first genious updated that file over a year back (so uploaded it on that day or earlier), so 500 downloads a day would be much more than these 92500 downloads.

However, in my opinion, I don't care much about these guys earning points in the galleries, at least I can find the files I need for myself by searching through the galleries.

Of course, copying it and uploading it a 2nd time wouldn't be allowed.

You won't get that many points anyways, except you really upload something good, you can use for several stuff. I mean this guy MAXIMUM earned around 8000 points in one year.

There are people around with over 100k points.

  • Thanks for responding Livio, I understand and I agree with you.

I also agree that, the first genius might not have downloaded 500 / day but definitely it's not usual ! something is fishy there ;-) He might be downloading 2 or 3 days a week instead of all 7 days ;-) anyways... lets not argue about calculations :D

But, this is really strange ! Forum etiquette's or rule says, don't copy/steal others contributions. Uploading some utilities or tools which they havent created is not ethical !

We are not on a warez site right ?

I am not behind points, you can see my points anyway. But it really hurts to see few people misusing system, wherein real contributions go unnoticed.

    Thanks !

  • Alright, I agree with you that, that guy really is boosting up points, however, with the first guy I do not agree.

    Hello Santhosh & jundan,

Thank you, We just now came to know that prakash profile has been banned from below discussion.

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/Profile/thread/35e593de-ced4-4976-bbbd-7c7501222d22

But here this is not intentionally done by prakash.

The old account was used by his brother and he was a good reader of prakash way of technical answers and he was a big fan of it.

he used to follow the technical activities and hitted likes.

Now the prakash is really had lost his valuble technet profile .

This is not doen intentionally and also in the link. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winservergen/thread/d1d5b745-4420-441d-bbe4-982f98bc3903

meinolf suggested prakash ragarding the self proposed answer and he humbly replied to menolf after understanding the self proposed answers.

Santosh i checked with him, he really not aware of the warning message which you are posted. If he really checked it i am sure he could have search and figure out what is happening here.

Once please review the way of answering and replies of Prakash and please consider this and help him in getting his profile back. As he is really adict to the technical quetionings and he is missing his technet  profile for what he not done intentinally,.

It could be really helpful for a young technical person like prakash if you could suggest him through email on what is happening.

Santosh and All moderators please help in getting his profile and encourge the young technical person.

    SubbaRaju GadhiRaju,

Ok, I would like to clarify few things here.

First of all, no one pleads for their colleagues on public forums ! If that's the case, then it's an exception !

    >>> But here this is not intentionally done by prakash.

    I Don't believe this !

    >>> The old account was used by his brother and he was a good reader of prakash way of technical answers and he was a big fan of it. he used to follow the  technical activities and hitted likes.

This is another fairy tale story ! This is not a FaceBook hit likes on every post.

I also don't believe that Prakash Nimmala and Prakash Goud are two different people ! Want to know why ?

Check the blog post : http://prakash-nimmala.blogspot.in/

Headline has Prakash Nimmala and Posted by prakash goud !!! ??? Younger Brother prakash goud posts article on behalf of his Elder Brother Prakash Nimmala or vice versa ??? how can that be possible ?

Santosh i checked with him, he really not aware of the warning message which you are posted. If he really checked it i am sure he could have search and figure out what is happening here.

Here is the snapshot of my deleted post.

    In clear text

    Prakash,
You are taking undue advantages of the system to increase your own points.
It is evident that, you have 2 or more profiles on Technet forum and you are using other profiles or shadow profiles to mark your own replies as helpful ones.

Also, there's no point in repeating the answer just by changing the sentences when other community members havd already replied, you had done that many times since you had started posting on the forums. Please stop that as well.

You will get recognition if your efforts were sincere, please don't try to to fool around. STOP doing what you are doing or had done so far !

Please refrain from doing such things in future or else, you will be BANNED from the forum for violating the Forum Rules.

P.S. I am going to delete my post soon after submitting ( you will get mail notification for sure ) so that, you will not face humiliation in front of whole world. Hope you will learn a lesson.

Anyways... Since Prakash Nimmala, now has a new profile linked below, I hope he will not repeat what has been done in the past.

    Prakash Nimmala (Technical forums)

I NEVER REALLY wanted to drag this aspect however, since it was posted on the forum issues forum, I thought of clarifying.

  • I think all these Downloads need to be removed. Perhaps there should be people moderating the Galleries so such things will not happen.

Also, if such problem is discovered, all these points need to be removed and may be even fine points need to be applied.

Look at his other uploads, nothing of his own ! Moreover, those are available on internet freely for download. Except for uploading them for points, what else could be the reason for them to be on the gallery ?

  • If you look at my initial post, I had mentioned download count as 92,663, if you look at now ( just after 3 hours 40 min ) count has gone up to 92,818 !!! ???

    92,818 - 92,663 = 155 downloads within 3 hours 40 min, is this normal ?

  • I would be careful here. My comments:

    • Clearly, the gallery entries are inappropriate. They are not original contributions.
    • However, the person went to considerable trouble to explain how to use the download.
    • It looks as if the person doesn't understand the purpose of the gallery, and has not read (or understood) the terms of use/guidelines.
    • The person has a few Wiki articles that look legitimate. In fact, I myself updated one.

I would conclude the person just needs to be informed that such contributions should not be posted in the gallery. The Wiki might be more appropriate.

EXCEPT. I cannot possibly explain the number of ratings or the number of downloads for the gallery contribution in one year. 61 ratings and 93,867 downloads. And, how to explain two other gallery contributions of the same utility in the past month by Prakash Nimmala. Something is not right about this. Here is the result of my seach in the gallery, showing the other two similar contributions:

Yeah he earned 6,800 points total from Gallery (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/profile/jagadeesh%20devaraj/?ws=usercard-inline), and so likely about 6,400 from the one item. I think it was all real downloads... he just found a viral pocket. I don't think he has anything to gain other than a few views landing on his websites when people check him out. Nothing super valuable.

Jagadeesh just hit a viral pocket. Happens all the time. It means that his item got cross-linked a few times, it snowballed, increasing his SEO, and thousands of people got sent there via Google and Bing searches than to the actual download site. You might even argue that it's helpful. I've even used TechNet Wiki as a tool to send people to download pages simply because a page on the wiki got better SEO and hits than the download page did. So rather than searching and not finding the download page, they quickly find the wiki, which quickly takes them to the download page. So you can argue that it might have helped.

However, I'm pretty sure it's against the terms of use. If you want to help people find the Download, you can do that through a Wiki page.

  • If this is a MS utility, then I do not think it's OK to put it in the Galleries under own name. As Richard said, WiKi article about that utility usage may be appropriate.

I think this entry (and other entries highlighted in the original post) ought to be removed (and all these points also need to be removed).

    Hello Seeker,

Its not the duplicate profile kind of thing. I never used them for duplicating any thing. However i faced the banned of 1 of my profile past due to some scoring kind of thing which made me more unhappy and i was pretty interested in getting up with the new issues kind of things.

So to prove  my self i came with a new profile and started answering and getting to review of challenging questions and the way tech-net experts answers them.

I requested the forums issues and tech-net site feedback to provide me the profile by review and i got the profile back.

I not trying for any thing for point.. my final AIM is how can i reach the End 1 with some useful content and information or resolution to him.

I really didn't aware of some Do and don't, which making me to to respond these kind of threads.

Even i am ok with removing score which you feel not worth.... But please instead of making profile band or something please let that person know what to do and what he done and what he not to do in case if any one feels not correct.. Please understand this and co-ordinate

You have "some" courage [?] Three cheers for you [?]

First you copy contents from others, embed it in your blog and then copy copy again that to microsoft website, how cool it is [?] And you still try to prove your innocence ?

    Thanks !

    Hello Seeker,

Thank you, it is not correct to say copy kind of thing because.

When we go through different articles, blogs and other subject in the internet we will familiar with some word and the way the users expresses it and some time will follow there way of expressing.

What happens during exam, we will read through the books and we try to express what is there in that because we read them and we are familiar with that word and we are familiar with the expressing of that author.

Because of it that is doesn't mean that the person who have written the exams is copied, He went through them he learned the way of expressing of the author in that books and he put it on a paper.

Please understand that i am not a person with 20 to 25 years of experience in the field of technology. I am the beginner . From the starting of technet i am facing 1 out of another issue like this as i am unaware of do and don't.

But when i see here, the direct report of band of profile, suggest the person, guide the person in this way he can come up with really new idea.. Instead of discouraging help out to become a Gem.

  • Hello Mr.Nimmala,

I looked at your blog posts and many of your posts are copied directly from one or the other posts which are published earlier than your posts, I could see word to word matching. I can even post some examples here if you want.

Copying others contents is considered as plagiarism which is not good.

If you are not running behind points then why are you uploading the Free tools on Gallery,  similarly, you have uploaded some Microsoft PDF Guides in Gallery which are available freely, what is the intention here ?

Richard must have mentioned those wiki's because of suspension and looks true also.

Your intentions may be good but they are not ethical !

I really didn't aware of some Do and don't, which making me to to respond these kind of threads. But please instead of making profile band or something please let that person know what to do and what he done and what he not to do in case if any one feels not correct..

It's like, I commit some mischievous things and later expect others to forget or forgive me ? Consider me in your place, do you forgive me if had done what you have done ?

    Thanks !

  • Can someone help me decide if these newly published Wiki articles were copied from somewhere? I was investigating this, then noticed the author was the subject of this thread:

Adding 1 more point, Really i don't need to copy to my blog and then to WIKI.

When you see that post article in my blog it is 1 year ago. by this you can understand i didn't not did any thing now, to post article in wiki.

It is Expressing the Views on what i understand how it works and how easily other can understand if we express.. I just posted in Wiki to reach the clear information for more young ones who come into this technology..

If a person with 30 Years experience in technology Explains about a topic, really there will be some Extra technical and the way of expressing will take time to understand for New one with 0 or 1 year experiance.

What happens if 1 year experience person start saying about his experience to 0 or 1 year experience person. Both the persons thinking will match to some extent so the way they want to understand will be same. This is the thing which made me to come with my opinion in blogs not more.

Richard Mueller - MVP Directory Services

Ed Price (a.k.a User Ed), SQL Server Customer Program Manager (Blog, Small Basic, Wiki Ninjas, Wiki)

Answer an interesting question? Create a wiki article about it!

    Thank you Ed Price,

What my intention in publishing them here is  I want to direct the users because some time even i could not found some tools easily, so if i publish here along with me the others can get those benefits . I can easily get the tool because it will be in my publications and other users who needs also enjoys the fruit.

If that is not appropriate to put Microsoft tools i will Un-publish them, can i get Guidelines on how can i use Wiki for redirecting ?

    Thanks !

I uploaded the PDF books, because i was the one who many time downloaded different books instead of what i except in the internet. So the intention is When i was at basic learning stage, i used to search with the key words "so and so book PDF" (So and so implies the name), so to make the users direct to the deployment and administration guides for there and my useful because i also can find easily as they will be in my contributions.

The mischievous is meaning "intended to cause harm or trouble" but here i just tried helping in directing them to proper books and tools and Information.. If you see the download of those Pdf's some 50 to 100 users downloaded them. So it is used for them to redirect them to downloads. My AIM to come here is to help some one and in some case i need any sugesstion to get the same help from others in this forum.

  • Instead of just pointing a issue, a correction step is needed.

I agree many will suggest for band if they find any thing not correct in their view or for some terms.

However band is not a correct in some situations, If some Spam activity is going on, then band is like a correct. But for the issue which can be corrected should be responded positively to encourage the persons more.

  • Well, I have nothing more to say... I will leave it  to you and others to decide upon mitigation plan. But I appreciate that, you are frank enough to express your views.

Concisely (Generally) speaking, there should be strict guidelines on writing wiki articles and gallery contributions. Gallery should be moderated, it’s not being done at present.

    Thanks !

  • Here is what I suggest:

    1. Remove all copied content and remove associated points.

    2. Allow that user one last chance to prove himself - never copy content from other sources but write own materials in own words.

  • Hi, just to add my .02c for the msicleanup utility

For the MSI cleanup utility it was removed by microsoft (and remplaced by some fix it)

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301?wa=wsignin1.0

"Where is the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (MSICUU2.EXE)? This article previously contained a link to the windows Installer Cleanup utility also known as MSICUU2.EXE. If you were directed to this article to solve a problem installing or uninstalling a product other than Microsoft Office, click the following link to use the replacement utility to uninstall your program:"

    And; (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility)

The utility was retired by Microsoft on June 25, 2010, due to conflicts with Office 2007. It was replaced by a Microsoft Fix It, which can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall

    edited; there is the official text;

The Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe) that was previously referred to in this article was discontinued. Although the Windows Installer Cleanup utility resolved some installation problems, it sometimes damaged other components that were installed on the computer. Because of this, the tool was removed from the Microsoft Download Center. The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter (http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall)     is a replacement for that utility.

So IMO it explain why it got added in the gallery, in a unofficial's way and it explain the hight download count, SEO only list that site to download it.

For gallery contribution I agree, I got a user banned in the past because of spam, but is gallery contribution are stil there (and yes, they are simply demo sleeping there). (Reported it, but the link are still there)

    Thanks everyone

  • Naomi, I am in agreement with your approach. However, I am skeptical about removing points ( in fact, points are not an issue here in my opinion ) and I am uncertain if it's an easy option to remove points (even for Admins).

Philippe, Thanks for the elucidation on MSI cleanup utility.

  • @ Prakash Nimmala,

The main concern here is/was, contributing to the community in a lawful way not the otherway around.

Please understand that, no one here is against you personally or jealous on your points to be frank.

The path you had chosen to come in a lime light was indeed a wrong choice.

I am really surprised to see that, even after all these you are trying to justify your deeds. Artifacts are infront of everyone.

This is the second time, community members reported against you. I again hope, perhaps for last time that, you will not repeat this.

  • Hi guys,

For the Wiki Plagiarism it should be handled by the community council, better start a new thread in the Technet wiki's forum to report it with example.

Like I told earlier, I explain only for the msi's tool but again it bring another point. If MS remove it from download center, is it ok to re-list it under the technet gallery ?

  • Well, I found my answer pretty fast, Technet Gallery's Term of Use;

Upload, or otherwise make available, files that contain images, photographs, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws, including, by way of example, and not as limitation, copyright or trademark laws (or by rights of privacy or publicity) unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consent to do the same.

So do you got consent from microsoft to make available that tool ? as they got the intellectual's right over it.

  • The simple answer is - if you're not sure if it's OK to publish a material, it's better not to publish it. You can also always ask advice here before publishing whether it does or doesn't violate copyright rights.

The MSICleanup utility got removed from microsoft download site (due to potential problem with newer Office). So posted in the gallery it just attract everyone as it's the only way to get it. Almost every tech know that tool or used it once, so yes it's a honeypot.
