off topic - vista failure after update RRS feed

    After installing automatic updates I received this message

     

    Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
    cause. . .

    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status:0xc000000f
    Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is
    missing or corrupt.

    I inserted ny Vista CD and told it to repair.  It said it cannot repair this problem. I cannot access anything on the computer except for startup (F2).  The reason given that it cannot repair is that there is no hard drive.  As I have alot of work I do not want to lose are ther any answers please.

    In case anybody else has this problem I solved it by taking out the hard drive, putting it in a caddyand attching it to a PC. I then copied winload into sys32 folder, put it back into the laptop and all is working. I also managed it from the CD when it failed again.  I can't remember exactly how but it can be done by clicking the options -but not the obvious one to repair
