No option to start new backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • I replaced my external harddrive and now I find there is no longer an option to start a new backup. Backing up only new and changed files is of little use. How do I start a new backup?

    Thanks

  • I believe you will need to perform the following steps to configure a new fresh backup to a changed drive.

    Open OneCare

    Click Change Settings

    backup tab

Click change settings in the lower left

Make sure that the first screen for Centralized Backup has "No Centralized backup" selected

Click your PC on the left.

Uncheck the selection for "Turn on backup for this PC."

Click Next and save the revised plan.

Go back to the backup tab and click Change Settings in the lower left once again.

    Select your PC and click.

    Click Turn on backup

Select the change location link and select the drive you want to use for backup

Modify the schedule as desired for "When"

Select the file types as desired for "What"

Click next and save the revised plan with the new selection.

  • Everytime you change your backup device, make sure that you configure your backup. The reason for this was OneCare still detects it as a different device.

    To configure the backup:

    1) Open OneCare first
    2) "Change OneCare Settings" (Version 2.0)
    3) Go to "Backup" Tab
    4) Choose Configure backup
    5) Hit "Next"
    6) Choose "Select Location"
    7) Choose your new External Hard Drive
    8) Finally, save the changes

After performing the configuration, on the OneCare program (Under backup and restore), choose "Start Backup"

  • Thanks for trying, but it doesn't work that way for me. I've changed drived before and sometimes just formatted and started over to clear old files that I didn't want taking up the space. This is the first time it doesn't allow me to choose to start a new backup. I think I'll reload One Care. It's a hassle because I use it on three PC's on a home network. Thanks again.

  • Well I've uninstalled One Care and re-installed it and the option to start a new backup is still not there. I'll have to go with a different backup program to have my stuff backed up. Amd while I'm at it, I'll look for another security software package as well. One Care was so good be fore they started improving it.
