Windows 7 says not genuine after april's update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 64bit OEM version. It worked fine all the time. I had to activate it twice by phone after my motherboard was broken, but this was about a year ago, and it has been running fine since then.

Suddenly, about a month ago (as far as I remember it was after 15th April update), it says its not genuine. I remember a system message saying something about unauthorised changes made, but I neither paid much attention to that, nor saved it. After that it says it's not genuine. I tried uninstalling all the 15th April updates, but it didn't help. Bringing back system by restore points neither.

My MGADiag log below. Would appreciate any help, as I see reinstalling Windows only as a last resort.

  • I followed Your instructions, but the dialog box that appeared only said that I might have been a victim of software pirating, and only allowed me to click a message that redirected me to site where I could download WindowsActivationUpdate. When I run it, again dialog box appears saying that  I might have been a victim of software pirating, and redirecting me to a site, where... I could download WindowsActivationUpdate. It seemed to be a vicious circle.

But then I uninstalled the WindowsActivationUpdate, installed it once again, and checked the genuine on the Microsoft Validation Website, this time in Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. It said it was genuine now. I check once again, and then allowed me to activate my Windows.

    It's working fine now.

    Thank You for Your help.

  • Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)
