Windows 7 HP says not valid - Activate Windows fails with 0x80070005

Question
-
Computer is a Dell laptop, 3 months old, bought at Costco. It crashed - blue-screen, it says, though I didn't see it - on starting up from sleep. Did an automatic dskchk and found a lot of errors (mostly 'deleting index'); when it got up to the desktop, it failed to do some optional updates and showed the "this copy of Windows is not genuine" down by the clock. Going to the validation page on Microsoft.com, it spun for 20 minutes before I quit; choosing Activate Windows fails with 0x80070005.

Actually - it occurs to me that I started that service (put it from manual to automatic (delayed), and started) last night while fiddling. I _think_ it was after I'd posted the MGA, but it might have been before. But whenever I did it, I restarted the computer and still got the not genuine message.

The default setting for the service is 'Manual' - please change it to that, reboot, and then post a new MGADiag report

Seems a little extreme - have there been previous problems with it?Whatever - I hope they enjoy the new system.
