Live One Care

Question

Hi: I have a problem. I got told that Live OneCare was no good so I uninstalled it off both my desktop and my laptop. I installed AVG and found that was awful so I uninstalled it. I got Windows LiveOneCare reinstalled on this desktop but I can't access it but before that happened I did run a scan, a tuneup and a backup but the system status still said FAIR and I don[t know why. Then I checked my account which says enabled and doesn't expire until July 21 2009. I tried to put the OneCare disc into my laptop but it won't install and again I do not know why. I also found the Laptop which is a Dell who installed Windows XP Home edition on last January has not been setting Restore Points and won't let me create one either. Dell say I have to run the installation discs again which means I will lose all my data and I'm afraid matybe the backup won't work either and I can't afford to lose all my data. In the meantime Windows XP on this desktop has the Anti-Virus turned off and I don't know how to turn it back on and I don't know how to access OneCare because I keep getting an error window and to report the problem to Windows. Can anybody help with these issues. I've tried everything I know (and I'm on the computer illiterate side) for three days now and am extremely frustrated.Tuesday, December 30, 2008 5:23 PM

Hello
I don't know where to start or what 'forum' to be in.
My One Care will not recognize my K: My Book Western Digital external HD no matter what USB port I hook it to, front back or USB hub. It has started to a couple of times, then stops, and next attempt nets the can't find it message. This is very frustrating. How hard can it be to see a HD that the entire computer sees and lists in My Computer, no matter where I plug it in?
What's more, the FAT32 vs NTFS or whatever, is very aggravating, as it would have been nice to know this BEFORE I bought a HD for this purpose. The directions don't work BTW, so no conversion. Should I uninstall One Care and reinstall to find out if it even works?
I am trying this One Care at the recommendation of COX as their McAfee failed to block a major virus attack in April...One Care got everything back to working, pretty much, though the machine still acts hinky.
Will the backup not work if I'm inside of the 90 day window? It keeps prompting me to buy...which is also annoying...I'll buy before it expires, and don't offer a 90 window if you don't really mean it...so is it not going to work properly until I purchase?
