I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing. We have seen numerous issues from customers much like yourself that were provided a Volume License key on their computer that has either been blocked by Microsoft or generated by a fake key generator. Windows Genuine Advantage currently provides checks for these type keys and prompts the user to notify them of this situation. More invalid keys are being identified daily and WGA is constantly refreshing its database with these newly identified keys and blocks them.

If you believe your Volume License Key (VLK) is Genuine please refer to the following steps to confirm it.

    1) If you are a Microsoft Volume Licensing customer you should contact your Reseller and address the issue with them directly.

    2) Refer to this site for information concerning VLK’s  http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/default.mspx#EJG

    3) If your reseller did not keep a record of your key, is unable to assist you or can no longer be contacted please call the approproate number here to confirm your Volume Licensing Agreement directly with Microsoft. The below Licensing FAQ will provide you with all the information needed to contact Microsoft directly about your Volume Licensing agreement:

    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/faq.mspx

    4) If you believe you have been sold counterfeit software you can provide Piracy information using the below link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/Reporting.mspx

    5) If your issue is still not resolved you may Purchase a copy of Windows XP or if you believe you have an existing valid Product Key and change the existing product key using the following MS Knowledge base article to change the VLK only. This will not work when trying to change the Blocked VLK to a Retail or OEM Product Key.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328874/en-us

    6) If you are attempting to change the existing key to a valid OEM or Retail key please follow the repair installation outlined in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315341

If all the above steps fail you can create a free WGA Support incident using our On-line Assisted support option here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&c1=509&gprid=9860&

  • why is it blocked?

  • Ru Passionate,

Did you read any of the URL's which Greg previously posted? Also do you have a problem you are currently experiencing with your Windows Operating System which we help you with? If so please let us know. Maybe the below response will provide information in conjuction with what was previously posted in this old thread.

Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation. Unfortunately, the product key used to install the operating system is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VLK editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

This is why you may be seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer.  You will need to uninstall Office before any further complications occur from being non-genuine. As a customer there are available options you may choose for a resolution. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine .  It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take.

First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy.  Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report piracy @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx  who have become victims. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs. We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. We have a 3rd party registered Cryptography lab who evaluates EVERY (really!) submission for the High-Quality Counterfeit replacement program - as they have a pre-determined subset of items they look for.

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

    Thank you

    Thank you
