Keep getting Office 2003 not genuine notices. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just started getting Office Proffessional 2003 not genuine notices.

    I had my hard drive replaced about a year ago and they reloaded all the programs on to the new drive.  So why am I just now getting these notices?

  • Hello BoyntonDave,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

    The report says you have a Blocked VLK, which means that (a) your computer has a Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional Edition 2003 installed, and that (b) a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) was used to install it.  A "blocked" VLK is one that was issued by Microsoft to a business, educational institution, or governmental agency for their exclusive use in accordance with a Volume Licensing Agreement.  (Note that such use does NOT allow the resale of such VLKs.)  However, because the VLK may have been reported lost, stolen, or compromised to the internet by the original keyholder, or because the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired, Microsoft has blocked the VLK from further use.

    If your use of this Volume Licensing edition of Office Professional Edition 2003 is in association with an organization that has a Volume Licensing Agreement, then please contact the IT support staff of the organization for further assistance.

    If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL disc, and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.

    Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand a full refund.

    If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at
    www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you would like to participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please click the Learn More Online link being displayed on your screen by the OGA Notifier utility.

    One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or Office and some or all of your programs, which you wrote that you did.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

    Also, please note this snippet of the report:

    File Scan Data-->
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe[5.1.2600.5512], Hr = 0x800b0100
    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\licdll.dll[5.1.2600.5512], Hr = 0x800b0100

    File Mismatch: C:\WINDOWS\system32\syssetup.dll[5.1.2600.5512], Hr = 0x800b0100

    This snippet shows that many critical Windows files have been either damaged, corrupted, or hacked.

    In the case of your installation of Windows, I would venture a guess that the repair shop used a hacked and cracked copy of a Dell OS Reinstallation disc to do the reinstallation of XP Pro onto your computer, as the license type and product key are consistent with a Dell OEM installation disc:

    If your computer does not have a Certificate of Authenticity from Dell for XP Professional affixed to the case or bottom (if a laptop), then the installation of XP Pro on your computer is nongenuine, regardless of what is reported by the mgadiag utility.  Further reason, IMO, to return to the shop that did the work and confront them with this information.

  • The shop where I baught the computer originaly went out of business.  The preinstalled software was XP HOME EDITION and OFFICE 2003 HOME EDITION.  When the hard drive crashed I had to take it to a different shop. It came back with Professional editions.  What can I do?

  • You can purchase a genuine edition of Microsoft Office from the  Microsoft Store.  You will need to unistall the non-genuine copy of Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 before installing the new genuine edition that you purchase.

  • Hello BoyntonDave,

    Here is an article with an overview of the differences between Office 2003 and 2007.  The preferred solution IMO would be to research the issue to see if getting your Excel models to work in Office 2007 and 2010 is a viable solution.

    http://www.directionsonmicrosoft.com/sample/DOMIS/update/2006/06jun/0606ccmto2.htm

    If that's not possible, I still see Office 2003 full retail packaged product being sold online on Amazon and eBay.  Generally, Office 2003 retail packages were much less counterfeited than their Office 2007 counterpart, so the chances of being hosed are pretty low and within acceptable limits, especially now that eBay's new buyer protection system is in place.
