Invalid License? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased my PC thru Tiger Direct and it's now telling me my Windows 7 Home Premium is invalid?  I did some research and everyone seems to ask for this first.  Can someone help?

  • I should also note that I know this was genuine.  My motherboard died, and I had to purchase another one thru HP, the exact same one to be able to run windows again but now it's inactive?  It makes no sense and now my Security Essentials stops working in 30 days?  I really need some help here, please?

  • HP neglected to add the proper SLIC table to the BIOS on your new motherboard.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on your COA sticker, using the link at the bottom of the System properties page.

  • I'm sorry please think of me as dumb.  Okay, so there is some type of sticker?  Where might this sticker be?  What link, and where is the system properties page? :)

  • See here for examples of what the sticker should look like - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx

In laptops, it's usually on the bottom, or inside the battery compartment.

Here's an alternative way of getting to the change Product Key wizard....

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI  3

    and hit the Enter key

    follow the instructions.
