Attaching images to records RRS feed

  • Question

I'm after a magic solution... I want to be able to attach images to different records (specifically in my case, the account entity - to allow me to upload a company logo for each account). I already know that CWR Mobility have an "Image Add-In" and this is 90% of what I need but sadly it is underdeveloped and under supported (from my limited experience with it). It is missing the option to be able to remove images after they're uploaded - not a great deal but enough to make it undeployable, plus there's a couple of other bugs which seem unaddressed in their support forum. I've asked them for an update but in the meantime...

    Simple requirements:

    • Allow upload of a single image, to be associated and displayed on the account form.
    • Allow removal of said image, subject to appropriate permissions (permissions are not a critical issue for me though)
    • Something that does not require me to start with a clean sheet in Visual Studio and code it myself!

I can't be the only one needing this functionality (e.g. photos of individuals for the contact entity) and I can't see that CWR's option is up to the job - so I'm hoping someone has the ideal solution and somehow I've just never heard of it yet... Wink

    I won't hold my breath!

PS: I know I could write this in VS "relatively quickly", however I have approximately minus 10 days to meet this non-core requirement, so something with a nice "Install Now" button and minimal configuration is what I was after. And the moon on a stick too...

    You may be in luck.
I wrote an article about attaching any file to any entity.
Although you will have to open visual studio.

I can guide you through the code.

    good luck.

  • Hi Oshri and many thanks for posting your code.

Your article is simply written and clearly explained and given more time I'm sure I could use it. Sadly it would only provide a partial solution, since there is no code to display the image within a CRM form (yes, a simple ASPX page could do this I know) and I'd need to limit uploads to one image per record. If I get more time I'll definitely use your code as a springboard but in the meantime I've resolved to put up with the limitations of CWRs solution since it is so close to what I need.

Once again thanks for sharing Smile
