Issue spliting a schedule into two schedules

Question
-
I am trying to split a schedule into two schedules. and in the process need to delete part of the schdule as it is now in the new schedule. I am getting an error message"Cannot delete or reassign tasks or assignments with projected actuals. this task/assignment has protected actuals so it cannot be deleted/ reassigned".
It is not clear where the projected actuals are coming from - any thoughts?

Joanna:
You will need to turn off protected actuals long enough to make this change.

Protected Actuals are set by the Admin under Tracking method selections. You cannot delete the protected actuls, by definition.

Thank you - but what do you suggest I do to split the schedule to get around this?Wednesday, June 29, 2011 3:53 PM

This is what I think:
- Mark the remaining work/remaining duration on all the tasks that you want to move, to zero.
- Set the "Publish" value to "No", on all these tasks that you are moving to a new schedule and Publish. This will prevent from these assignments from appearing on resource's tasks any more.
- Create new tasks in the new schedule to reflect these tasks. (which you have already done)
- Compensate for any "Work" values when you estimate the new tasks, (if necessary).
This way you will preserve the history on the tasks where actuals have been reported, and also have new tasks to report on.
